In the past, this customer had used non-magnetic coaxial contacts to connect the 16 channels of MRI signals between the mobile bed and the main MRI system. Due to the high price pressure in the MRI market, the customer was looking for a cost efficient solution, with the same or better performance.
Solution: Hyperspring RF Grid
The Smiths Interconnect Engineering team used its experience in spring probe contacts and RF engineering, developing a grid array based solution, replacing the existing expensive coaxial contacts with specially arranged non-magnetic Hyperspring contacts. This connector solution also meets the extreme requirement of 60,000 mating cycles during the life of the MRI-system, as well as excellent vibration and shock performance.
