REACH, RoHS, WEEE and Prop 65

ROHS Compliant

Statement of Compliance

1.0 Scope
Smiths Interconnect is committed to both Environmental Protection and to our Customers’ obligations for compliance with applicable environmental legislation and other requirements. The majority of our products are composed of various metallic and metal alloys and composite housings with appropriate surface finishes. While some of these materials contain small amounts of regulated materials, their content is in compliance, unless otherwise indicated, with the European Union Directives which define Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).

2.0 REACH and RoHS requirements
REACH Article 33 requires companies to provide their customers with “sufficient information, available to the supplier, to allow safe use of the article including, as a minimum, the name of that substance.” An article is a product which has a special shape, surface or design which determines its function to a greater degree than its chemical composition. In all cases, the concentration threshold of substances listed on the ECHA candidate list of 0.1% applies to the weight of the supplied article.

The RoHS directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment that is destined primarily for domestic consumer use. Smiths Interconnect does not manufacture OEM products of a domestic nature. Based on a review of the Directive regarding Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Smiths Interconnect does not design, manufacture, or supply finished products which are subject to the WEEE directive.

3.0 Exceptions
In certain applications, our customers may have requested or in the future may request that certain products do not comply with the restrictions of Section 2.0. Such applications may include, but are not limited to, products intended for national security or medical applications. Such products will be indicated as non RoHS compliant if requested, and agreed with our customers, during the product design phase.

4.0 Statement of Compliance
Smiths Interconnect will provide customers with the appropriate certificate of compliance to the most recent legislation using the online database at BOMCheck.net™ unless otherwise agreed.

5.0 California Residents: PROPOSITION 65 WARNING
Smiths Interconnect is committed to the principles of the California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, better known as Proposition 65.  The law requires that no person, in the course of doing business, knowingly and intentionally expose an individual(s) to a chemical(s) known to the State of California to cause cancer and/or birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Smiths Interconnect products are intended for industrial use and not intended for applications where exposure could cause harm. They are manufactured from a wide range of materials, in varying sizes and amounts. As such, it is not feasible to test every component supplied for the presence of a Proposition 65 chemical. In good faith respect of compliance and caution, Smiths Interconnect has instead chosen to provide the following warning based on the premise that one or more of the chemicals listed in Proposition 65 may be an ingredient in our products:
