Waveguide Couplers and Splitters

Smiths Interconnect supplies waveguide directional and non-directional couplers, combiners, and splitters for a variety of space, defense, and air defense radar applications. These devices operate in assigned bands and can be supplied as components or as passive systems integrated with other passive components.

Features & Benefits

Smiths Interconnect has an expanding portfolio of couplers ranging from S to E-Band with coupler choice dependent on the application and the system considerations and designed for a variety of radar and space-based applications. These have been supplied as stand-alone products and as assemblies integrated with our RF filters, ferrite isolators, coaxial transitions, loads and terminations.
All products are produced using highly controlled manufacturing processes and utilise materials suitable for the operating environment and can be customized to incorporate a variety of flange details. Designs are subjected to rigorous thermal and dynamic analysis and where appropriate, and within the limit of our in-house capability, can be tested at operational average RF powers at seas-level, under vacuum or at partial pressure conditions.
Specific features

  • Hybrid couplers are available configured as 2 x 2, 2 x 1 and in a Ka-Band also 1 x 3 and 1 x 4 power splitters and non-equal split 2:1 types.
  • Devices are intrinsically suited to high power application. High power variants subjected to in house qualification subject to test limitations.
  • Can be integrated with internal or external loads and RF power detection sensors.
  • Readily mechanically configured to meet existing system constraints.
  • Optimised electrical performance over the assigned band.
  • EMC shielded by design.
